Leading through adversity is tough.

Things can be constantly evolving and changing.

The path forward is not always clear.

But effective leaders are able to navigate this by focusing on their strengths, overcoming setbacks and continuing to drive for results.

How do we navigate adversity?

1/ 30000-foot view - zoom out from the environment. What’s really going on? Could you see things differently from a different viewpoint? or with another more experienced perspective from a mentor? Sometimes when you’re so in the weeds you don’t see the cracks or the ones beginning to form.

2/ Perfection - don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Shooting for the best or the perfect solution is going to slow you down. During adversity, it’s important things are happening and getting done so you’re moving forward and making progress. If everything needs to be perfect you’re not going to get anywhere. Good is ok.

3/ In your Control - a really important one is to focus on what’s in your control. What are the things you can actually control and do to move forward? There are things like the weather which you cannot control so it’s no good wasting energy being frustrated or complaining about these types of things.
